Cruinniú na nÓg Excavation Workshop

29 May 2024

Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people.

Cruinniú na nÓg Excavation Workshop

The inaugural Cruinniú na nÓg took place on 23rd June 2018 and for the past number of years, including under exceptional circumstances in 2020, young people and families have come together to enjoy a wide range of creative activities, from workshops and tutorials to recitals and readings, right across the country. Delivered in partnership with the 31 Local Authorities and supported by RTÉ, Ireland is the first and only country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. The programme is packed full of fun, free, creative activities; from graffiti art workshops to stop-motion animation, and coding and architecture workshops.

This year, Clare Museum, supported by Creative Ireland Clare, is delighted to be celebrating Cruinniú na nÓg with an archaeology workshop for children. Join members of TVAS (Ireland) Ltd, archaeological consultants from Crusheen, Co. Clare, for this hands-on archaeology workshop where you can discover the history of times past using imitation excavation boxes and materials to simulate an archaeological excavation on site at Clare Museum.

Clare Museum’s Education Officer, Teresa Carmody O’Shea, says, “Cruinniú na nÓg is a fantastic initiative by Creative Ireland that enriches the lives of our young people through creativity. We are very grateful to Creative Ireland Clare for providing us with the opportunity to do just that in our local community with this wonderful workshop.”

This workshop is FREE and suitable for children aged 7-12 years.

Places are limited, so booking is essential. To book please contact claremuseum@clarecoco.ie.
